Reuters | 8:06 a.m. PT | Reporting by Lola Wang News Anchor: Good afternoon, and welcome to Reuters: The World Today. I’m Lola Wang, reporting at VYMUN 2026. Today, October 24, 2026, developments in the Joint Crisis Committee centre on the mounting challenges facing the Kuomintang (KMT), representing JCC-A, following its reported capture of Chongqing from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), representing JCC-B.

As attention shifts from territorial control to the needs of displaced civilians, delegates are discussing proposals to establish refugee camps, raising questions about the provision of food, shelter, medical assistance, and long-term resettlement. KMT leaders Chiang Kai-shek and Bai Chongxi have reportedly called for support in delivering food supplies, while the broader debate centres on how the government will allocate resources to address the needs of those displaced by the fighting.

As the KMT seeks to consolidate its control over Chongqing, its ability to restore stability, govern the territory, and provide basic necessities for civilians will remain an important consideration alongside its military objectives, including territorial expansion and efforts to reclaim and rebuild lands previously lost.

News Anchor: Joining us now is a representative of the Kuomintang to discuss the situation following the capture of Chongqing.

Thank you for joining us. Following the KMT’s reported capture of Chongqing, what are your delegation’s immediate priorities, and how do you plan to consolidate control over the territory?

KMT Representative (Xiong Shihui): We plan to control the Chongqing recently captured areas by supplying food and giving incentives to the locals. Also, regarding the farmers, most of them aren't very happy. We are currently undergoing investigation and trying to find a way to stabilize this and be able to communicate with them so they will be on our side.

News Anchor: Thank you. Turning to the humanitarian situation, delegates have discussed proposals to establish refugee camps for those displaced by the fighting. What measures does the KMT support to ensure civilians receive adequate food, shelter, and medical assistance?

KMT Representative (Xiong Shihui): Our KMT funding has used American donations, American loans, and KMT's own money. We've also all donated 15% of our own money to ensure this happens, and we will make sure that those who fight for us and are loyal will be our number one priority.

News Anchor: Finally, as the conflict continues, how does the KMT intend to balance its military objectives with the long-term challenge of rebuilding Chongqing and restoring stability for its civilian population?

KMT Representative (Xiong Shihui): We plan to make sure that we have our whole country stable before we start anything. Because if we don't have stability, then our work will be for nothing. Once we have stability, we'll start regenerating our population, and we will help those who need counselling,

News Anchor: Thank you, Xiong Shihui. I’m Lola Wang, reporting for Reuters at VYMUN 2026. Thank you for watching.
