Stunning start to the DISEC committee!

Fox News

With another stunning start, the Disarnment and international Security committee had a very interesting start to the session with a moderated caucus on banning ASAT weapons. This saw many stances of countries like Nigeria and Russia. These countries had varying stances on this topic, with many supporting a full ban, but other countries supporting regulations rather than a full ban. This may result in a hard time finding a resolution.

Varying stances aside, after this, the commitee launched into another moderated caucus with the topic of the definition of ASAT weapons. This caucus included more countries sharing their stances and definitions of ASAT weaponary. Examples of this include countries like Sweeden, Australia, Brazil, and Nigeria. Their definitions ranged from only weapons that carried explosives to any weapon that creates space debris when fired. However, most of the countries seemed to agree, which might mean for a quick resolution, contradicting our previous statement. After this, the committee launched into yet another round of speeches, this time on the topic of Disparity in Accsess to Technology. In this caucus, we have seen many different viewpoints from the more developed countries like China, sweden, or Finland, to the less developed countries like Nigeria. The viewpoints differed, but in the end, it seemed like most countries agreed on one thing: one group of countries should not have complete control over ASAT technologies.

To conclude the caucus, Finland made a useful speech re-iterating their stance on the topic. After the caucus, there was another caucus before the end of the session on Possible solutions for ASAT weapons. In this breif caucus, many countries proposed solutions, however with not much response from anyone, except for Singapore at the end. To conclude, the first session of DISEC was a very intuitive and useful session, with multiple moderated caucuses including contradicting and agreeing stannces. All in all, the first session was a productive and interesting one. We hope to see you again soon! Signing out, Fox News.
